That old friend you’ve been meaning to reach out too for a long time. The diet and exercise routine you keep putting off. The home improvement project that’s always at the bottom of your To Do list. The garage sorely needing to be organized and cleaned. The books on the shelf collecting dust that you have been intending to read.
That’s what Personal Finance Utopia has been for me over the past several years – something I want to and know I should be doing, but haven’t made enough effort to prioritize. I’ve had this constant, nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I should not have so easily abandoned this site. There’s been several times where I was extremely close to starting it back up again only to convince myself otherwise.
So, what happened? Why didn’t I just stick to it? Well, mainly life “got in the way.” In the 1.5 years since I last updated PFU I have: started a new job, welcomed a second baby, bought a house, moved, and started a different new job!
Really though, I was too ambitious with my initial goals for what Personal Finance Utopia could be. So many sites in the blogosphere seem to quickly rise to meteoric accomplishments – insane amounts of traffic, income, etc. It is so easy, despite best intentions to stay grounded, to get excited about the possibilities and, in the end, set up unrealistic expectations. Then, when progress is slow and other life events occur, it’s pretty simple to put aside blogging temporarily. Except temporarily can snowball into an even longer period of time…nearly 1.5 years in my case.
This time around I am going to tone down expectations and have more fun with it. Sharing my thoughts and experiences and interacting with others is enjoyable. That is my prime motivation now. Anything else that comes from running Personal Finance Utopia will just be an added bonus.
After all, something is better than nothing!
So, with as little fanfare as possible, Personal Finance Utopia is once again re-launched…again (again).
I’m trying to drive up my Twitter followers, Facebook Likes, and E-mail subscriptions. You can also follow along via Google+, BlogLovin, or RSS. Please help me reach my goals by selecting one or all of these options!
